Experimenting with Texture...

Hi Pen Fans!

Recently, I've been experimenting with different techniques involving texture.

I have produced two pens that I'm pretty happy with.  The texture resembles a cracked shell effect.  The shorter pen is textured entirely (but I'm unsure about the texture on the conical ends.  I might eliminate that with future designs), and the longer pen has a polished middle, with textured ends for a contrast.

If anyone has any honest critique, please don't hold back.

I'm not sure if this will be a standard production feature, it will probably remain a nice custom option.  If anyone is interested in this technique, you can contact me to discuss.

Thanks

Brian at Edison.

J.Fine's Gravatar I absolutely LOVE your new "Full" pen texturing.
When ALL pen mfgr's are looking for new and different ways to "spark" up the looks of their pens, you just evolved this texturing mode.
It is gorgious and I'll be ordering a couple of them just because of this newest addition!!.
Many thanks.

Phil's Gravatar Will you bring any of your experiments to
the DC show?

Brian Gray's Gravatar Yes, I will bring textured pens to DC.

I do have one were I infilled the texture with gold. It sounds nice, but it really turned out a little gaudy, my opinion.

Julie's Gravatar Brian, I saw this pen the other day on FPN and really like the simplicity of this pen. Seeing your post about infilling the texture with gold: sometimes less is more, eh? :) I so wish I could afford another Edison this year! Next year... and who knows what you'll be up to by then.

Tom's Gravatar Hey Brian,

To be honest, I'm not too big of a fan on the textured look here. Looks like the pen withered. Or it stayed in the bath too long and got wrinkly. However, it is unique - which is definitely a plus

Preston Hughes's Gravatar I like both the full textured effect and the partial texture on the ends. It would be interesting to experiment with a layered or laminated material so that when the upper layer was removed it exposed the second layer. This might be less gaudy than filling the grooves.

john smith's Gravatar I would like to see it in brown or a deep red as I am not a fan of black but it like the full texture including the ends. It gives an antique look which appeals to me.
