Edison Rollerballs! Fountain Pen and Rollerball Within Same Section!

Hi Pen Fans!

I am very happy to announce a unique option for Edison Rollerballs!

I have been able to engineer a neat concept within the interior of our grip sections for all models that use a #6 nib. This design will allow the grip section to house a Fountain Pen Nib and also a Rollerball Nosecone within the same unit.

This fountain pen/rollerball combination option will be compatible with all of our models that use a #6 sized nib. This includes the Collier, Beaumont, Elysian, Menlo, Brockton, Comet, Glenmont, Morgan, #76, Pearl, and Herald.

This will be an option for any new pen purchase, but we can also offer an aftermarket retrofit to any existing #6-nibbed converter filling Edison pen within your collection.

Compatible refills will be of the “G2” style. We will supply Uniball 207 Gel Refills, but Pilot G2’s, Pentel LR7’s, and many other G2 style refills are compatible.

This gives us three options to offer...

Option #1Purchase new pen with  FP/RB Combination Section. Comes equipped with all components required to use as Fountain Pen and Rollerball.Adds $35 to normal price of Fountain Pen
Option #2Retrofit an existing Edison Pen with FP/RB Combination Section.Ship pen to Edison for retrofit. $80 + $7 return shipping
Option #3Dedicated Rollerball, no Fountain Pen Option.Same price as fountain pen version

Below is a cross section of a grip section showing how this works. I have been able to engineer this in such a way that there are no compromises between the two configurations. In other words, the fountain pen configuration still retains the internal structure required to fully support the fountain pen nib housing.

If you are interested in purchasing a ready-to-ship Currently Inventoried pen with this Rollerball option, we can do this. However, we will most likely need to manufacture the combination-style section. So rather than shipping immediately, please allow 1-2 business days.

At the time of publishing this announcement, we only have these rollerball nosecone options in rhodium (silver tone). However, gold versions are on the way and should be here within 4-6 weeks.

Full details are within the video above, but please email me with any questions!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the detailed video! You gave us some great insight into your design process, and I think the rollerball option opens your market to new customers (or to some of us die-hard fountain pen fans who nevertheless need a roller ball or similar once in a while.

It is also great that this option is open to all of your #6 sections, which gives customers a lot of models to choose from.

Keep up the innovations!

Thanks Kevin! It’s been an exciting feature to engineer, and it’s really neat how it works so seamlessly between both configurations.
And yes, most of our customers are hardcore fountain pen enthusiasts with little interest in rollerballs. But the same customers oftentimes ask me about a fine pen for their friend or relative who might find a fountain pen impractical. And for those people, of course, they could start with a nice rollerball, and then over time switch the same pen to a fountain pen if they wish! Thanks for the kind words. – Brian at Edison
