New Model to the Signature Line! The Comet!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m very happy to announce that we have a new model coming to the Signature Line. The Comet!

Our employee Jake designed this pen entirely with very little help from me, so that makes us extra proud!

Please see the video below for all details, but I will also give a quick summarization.

The Comet is a design the uses the finial as the largest diameter, tapering from this point all the way to the end of the barrel.

The majority of the Comet designs that we have created for our inventory have an accented finial from a complementary material. The name comes from the idea of a comet flying through space. The accented finial represents the comet, and the rest of the pen represents the tail.

Comet in Brooks Combustion with Fire Opal Finial

The accented finial is optional, as you can see in the photo below…

Dimensions….
The pen looks very sleek capped….

…and retains this sleekness when posted. The cap posts deep and secure…

At the time of publishing this announcement, we have more than 30 Comets that are currently inventoried and ready to ship. You can watch the slide show below to see all Comets or visit our Current Inventory Gallery that shows all Comets that are ready to ship.

Then of course, we can always take a custom order for any combination of materials that you feel works for you.

The price of this pen will be in the same range as the rest of our Signature Line standard offerings. $275 with a Steel nib or $375 with an 18k nib.

That’s all of the necessary details that I can think of! If you like this design, please send along your congrats to Jake! We’re very proud that he took this idea all the way from a concept to a successful design! It’s not an easy task!

Please reach out with any questions.

Limited Edition Black Knight Collier! A Nice Mistake!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m happy to announce that we are now offering a new Limited Edition Signature Line Collier in a material that has been a personal favorite of mine for a while now.

This material is what we’ve called Cumberland Acrylic previously. In the past, we’ve been able to acquire this in only smaller quantities for individual custom pens. We’ve never had enough for a sizable run until now.

This edition is limited to only 75 pieces.

The nib and clip have a black oxide treatment to compliment the darker tones in the acrylic.

This Cumberland acrylic is a material that was actually a mistake from the manufacturer! The colors and swirls that you see in these photos were not intended! I think that they were looking to get rid of their mistake, so they sent us a few meters to check out at no charge. We loved it so much that we instantly bought up the rest of the “mistake”!

This initial purchase gave us decent quantities for some custom individual pens, but about 6 months ago we were getting low on it. We did not want to say goodbye to the material, so we contacted the manufacturer to see if they could replicate the “mistake” on a larger scale and they were able to do so with the first try!

This pen will be available with Steel Black Oxide nibs in EF, F, M, B, 1.1mm italic, and 1.5mm italic. It is a converter filler. For all specifications on the Collier, please see here.

The price for this pen will be $225. The normal retail price for a Signature Line Collier with a Steel Nib is $275. Since these pens were made “assembly-line” style, we can manufacture them faster with the same quality. This allows us to bring the price down significantly compared to a fully custom version.

All of these pens are in stock and ready to ship immediately! Please let me know of any questions.

The Edition is Sold Out

PS – when were looking for a clever name for this pen, immediately the dark trim and color scheme made us think of the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail! At first, we dismissed this idea. But as we searched for a different name, we just couldn’t get this out of our heads.

So what the heck! ’tis but a scratch!

We are discontinuing Aurum and will be replacing it with Moonbreaker.

Moonbreaker is a very nice flecked pattern with a grey base and subtle baby-blue highlights.

The material is lightly translucent and will show through when held up to a light source.

While the Beaumont in Aurum has been discontinued, we still have a small handful of inventory and so do our retailers. So if you were ever on the fence about the Beaumont in Aurum, now is the time while they last!

This means that the new lineup of Beaumont Production Line Pens is now Unicorn, Fireball, and Moonbreaker.

3D Printed Spiral Ink Windows!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m very excited to announce something that has been a long time coming. We’ve engineered optional Spiral Ink Windows into our Draw Filling system.

There’s a lot to cover with this topic. It’s probably best to simply watch the video for all details, but I will give some bullet points below.

  • Available on our Draw Fillers.
  • The Ink Window Resin is gas impermeable, meaning that it will not leak ink into the feed/nib/cap.
  • Stain resistance is the same as that I’d expect from our normal clear/translucent acrylics.
  • Flushing is easy and best done with a bulb syringe.
  • Ink Capacity is 1mL (half our normal Draw Filler. Double a typical Converter Filler).
  • Currently available in the Menlo only.
  • The price for the spiral window adds $100.

As of publishing this video, we have more than 16 of these pens currently inventoried and ready to ship. See this link for our selection.

Flushing the pen is best done with a bulb syringe. Any type will work, but this is my preferred syringe.

Please let me know if there are any questions.

New Material in The Production Line Collier! Nighthawk!

Hi Pen Fans!

We’ve been looking for an opportunity to add a permanent 5th material to the Production Line Collier for a while now, but we were waiting for something in particular that I think everyone will really like!

We are calling this new material “Nighthawk”.

This material is made from the same composition as the Collier in Rock Candy. If you remember my blog post from when we introduced Rock Candy, it’s a very neat composition of acrylic. It’s difficult to put into words, but it has an amazing amount of depth considering that it’s a flecked pattern. This gives it a pretty phenomenal shine. While this composition is not celluloid, it feels like celluloid. Honestly, its qualities remind me of the original Sheaffer cebloplast, which is hard to find in a modern acrylic.

So with this new composition having a bit of a celluloid feel compared to our normal acrylics, we decided that we’d like to emulate one of my favorite celluloids that I’ve ever worked with, which is Tibaldi Impero (now extinct to the best of my knowledge). Many of you might know of this celluloid, as it’s very highly sought after. We used to have some supplies of this, but they were used up very quickly years ago for good reason.

So this was our inspiration when having the material made. I didn’t want to copy it exactly, however. I wanted to take the qualities that I loved about Impero and keep them, but make a small change that I feel improves the look. What I really love about the original celluloid is the incredibly saturated and deep blue flakes, which Nighthawk definitely has, but featured even more. What I wanted to alter was the ratio of black and grey in the base. Impero has a bit more black vs grey in the base material, and I was happier with a bit more grey vs black. I want to be clear – this material is not celluloid. It is an acrylic that is inspired by a very popular and now extinct celluloid. So the appearance and the feel of this material do remind me of celluloid. I felt that our customers would appreciate knowing the backstory and inspiration behind this offering.

This pen will NOT be replacing any of the other currently available Colliers. So there will now be 5 offerings in our Production Line Collier. The Collier offerings will now be (L to R in the photos below) Nighthawk, Rock Candy, Burnished Gold, Persimmon Swirl, and Antique Marble.

As with all of our Production Line Pens, these can only be purchased for through our retailers listed here for $169.

If anyone has any questions, please reach out!

Winter Limited Edition Glenmont with Ruthenium Trim!

Hi Pen Fans!

We are proud to introduce a new Signature Line Limited Edition Pen with a bit of a winter theme. This pen is limited to only 50 pieces. It is a Glenmont that uses a Ruthenium clip and a Ruthenium steel nib.

It was several years ago that we acquired a batch of steel nibs that were plated in Ruthenium. They are no longer available to us. Ruthenium is a unique plating. It has a darker shiny tone, as opposed to our normal steel nibs that are bright in color. They are not as dark as our Black Oxide nibs, but Black Oxide is a chemical treatment and usually comes out with a mildly satin finish, whereas ruthenium is a darker shiny plating.

We hoarded these nibs for quite a while! You can tell that these nibs go back into our history, as they have the “Edison” text on the engraving. Several years ago, we changed our nib engravings to have only the logo with no text. So these were a special purchase from years ago that we hid away for the right day!

We recently sent off some of our Glenmont clips to receive a matching plating in Ruthenium, and we feel that the effect looks pretty nice!

This pen is made from an acrylic that we call “Black Ice”. I’m not sure how the weather is treating you in your area, but here in Ohio, this pen is quite apropos, as it’s 7 degrees at the time of writing this!

The pen will be available with a Steel nib in Fine, Medium, or Broad. It is a converter filler.

The edition is limited to only 50 pens. We would have loved to have made more, but we only have so many Ruthenium plated nibs to use!

The price for this pen will be $225. The normal retail price for a Glenmont with a Steel nib is $275. Since these pens were made “assembly-line” style, we can manufacture them faster with the same quality. This allows us to bring the price down significantly compared to a fully custom version.

Redesigned Serpent Clips!

Hi Pen Fans!

We have been offering our original Snake Clips for many years now, but we felt that it was time for a redesign that would be much more detailed, a bit slimmer and lighter, and one that would fit all of our pens, including the smaller designs. All details are in the video linked below.

These clips are made from a tarnish-resistant Solid Sterling Silver.

To clarify, these “clips” technically are not functional clips. They are not intended to be placed over a shirt pocket, since Solid Sterling will bend and not spring back. They are intended as decorative roll stops.

Solid Sterling Serpent Clip with Blue Swarovski Crystal Eyes

These are part of another collaborative project with my good friend, Dan Furlano. Dan has previously worked with us on overlays, as well as our current Spherical Roll Stops.

Menlo converter Filler in Black Acrylic with Solid Sterling Serpent Clip, Blue Swarovski Crystal Eyes

The details involved in these clips truly are stunning. The details of the scales, the forked tongue, the fangs, and the Swarovski crystal eyes really make this clip pop!

Solid Sterling Serpent Clip, Blue Swarovski Crystal Eyes

This Serpent Clip is available with either Blue Swarovski Crystal Eyes or Red/Pink Swarovski Crystal eyes.

Solid Sterling Serpent Clip, Blue Swarovski Crystal Eyes

These clips weigh only about 6 grams. So they really don’t affect the balance of a pen significantly and don’t make the pen cumbersome at all.

Please see the video linked above for all details, and also to see how these Serpent clips look on various models of ours. You can see a full gallery of examples of these Serpent Clips here, or you can watch the slideshow linked below.

These clips will be available on any custom Edison Pen and will add $149. If you are interested, please email me.

Have a great day!

Pearlized Juniper Collier Going Away Soon! :(

Hi Pen Fans!

Remember that during the summer/fall, we had to temporarily discontinue the Rock Candy Collier due to the material manufacturer experiencing work force issues around COVID.

At that time, we allowed all of you to vote on what the temporary replacement would be, and the votes were heavily in favor of Pearlized Juniper.

Collier in Pearlized Juniper is Going Away

The plan was to keep offering Pearlized Juniper (even after Rock Candy returned in November) until we ran out of materials. Well, we have run out of materials!

If you are interested in a Collier in Pearlized Juniper, now is the time!

We have just recently shipped the last batch of these pens to our retailers. So whatever is left with our retailers is what’s left.

You can purchase the Collier in Pearlized Juniper (while they last) from any of our retailers by clicking here.

Lastly, we do have a material that we are working on now to make a new Collier color. It’s pretty incredible, and a material that we’ve never used before. So stay tuned in the next 2-3 months!

If anyone has questions, just reach out.

Rock Candy Colliers Are Back!

Hi Pen Fans!

It was back in early July that we had to announce a temporary discontinuation of the Collier in Rock Candy. This was due to COVID effecting the labor schedules of one of our acrylic manufacturers. We are happy to announce that the manufacturer is back on track and Rock Candy is here again!

Collier in Rock Candy
Collier in Rock Candy

When Rock Candy was temporarily discontinued, we announced that we would use Pearlized Juniper as a replacement until Rock Candy returned….

Collier in Pearlized Juniper

The plan was to stop manufacturing Pearlized Juniper once Rock Candy arrived, but Pearlized Juniper has been pretty popular! We have enough materials to keep making Pearlized Juniper for a couple more months. So we will still offer the Collier in Pearlized Juniper, but my estimate is that it will last us only another couple of months, so it won’t be around too much longer.

All of our retailers have their orders in for Rock Candy Colliers, and the vast majority have received their shipments by now. You can visit any of our retailers listed here to find the Rock Candy and also the Pearlized Juniper Colliers, although the Pearlized Juniper will be around for a limited time.

If anyone has questions, just reach out!

2020 Limited Edition Collier in DiamondCast™!

Hi Pen Fans!

We are all set with a pretty exciting Limited Edition pen made from Tim McKenzie’s DiamondCast™! This will be our first Limited Edition pen made from Tim’s material, although we already have plans for more!

We’ve been exploring more and more with “craft” materials for over a year now, and honestly we should have been using these a long time ago! We are very happy with all qualities of these materials. As opposed to our normal acrylics, they really open up some amazing creative iterations that otherwise aren’t always possible coming from our overseas large-scale acrylic manufacturers.

We also feel that it’s important for us to support fellow small US-based businesses like Tim’s. Tim’s materials in my opinion are better and more unique than overseas large-scale acrylic manufactures for many of the same reasons that Edison Pens are unique. Smaller scale production allow both Tim and Edison to give special attention to details that larger scale manufacturers cannot always take the time to deal with. We feel that it’s fantastic for a craft US-based penmaker to team up with a craft US-based material maker.

So our Limited Edition Collier is made from two of Tim’s DiamondCast™ materials. “Metallurgy” and “Smoke on the Water”. Full resolution versions of these images can be seen here.

LE Collier in DiamondCast™ Metallurgy
LE Collier in DiamondCast™ Smoke on the Water

This edition will be limited to only 50 pens from each material, for a total of 100.

LE Collier in DiamondCast™ Metallurgy
LE Collier in DiamondCast™ Smoke on the Water

The edition is numbered from 1 to 50 in each material.

These pens have all of their nibs carefully tuned and are ready to ship immediately.

Pricing for these pens are $225 with a Steel nib or $325 with an 18k nib. So you know, our pricing for a custom Signature Line version of the Collier made from Tim’s materials would normally be $290 steel, or $390 18k. But since these pens are made assembly-line style in batches rather than one at a time, we can offer this discount while still attending to the same fine details.

If anyone has any questions, please reach out!
