Baltimore Pen Show and LE Exclusive for the Show!

Hi Pen Fans!

We’ll be attending the Baltimore Pen Show this weekend!

The last three pen shows, we’ve been featuring a Limited Edition Exclusive for each show, and they’ve proven to be very popular! Once again, we will use a special material obtained from Jonathon Brooks of the Carolina Pen Company.

Please see photos below. This is our newest model, the Brockton. It is made from Jonathon’s “Combustion”.

The edition will be limited to 15 pens. They will be priced at $275 with Steel nib or $375 with an 18k nib.

At the San Francisco Pen Show, our LE Exclusive Pen sold pretty fast, and we realize that some people were disappointed in this. For this reason we will limit our Friday sales to 10 pens only, and our Saturday sales to 5 pens. First come, first serve each day. We realize that a lot of people can’t get off of work to attend a pen show on a Friday and we want everyone to have a shot at this pen who wants it.

If you cannot attend the pen show and like this material, we do have a bit more of it. While we cannot make a pen identical to this one and also abide by the “rules” of a Limited Edition, we can still take custom orders for other pen models made from the same Combustion material. So be sure to email me if you’d like to speak about a non-limited edition pen made from this material.

Outside of this Limited Edition pen, of course we’ll be bringing lots and lots of new inventory. We’ll have just over 380 pens with us.

Unfortunately, we haven’t had time to get all of the pens that we’ll be bringing to the show photographed and uploaded to our galleries, but we’ll have the galleries updated when we return from the show. In the meantime, here’s a link to the vast majority of the pens that we’ll be bringing.

Lastly, we do have exactly ONE LE Herald in Rose, left and we will bring this to the show if anyone is interested. We also have a small handful of the Group Buy LE Brocktons left, and those will also be with us.

We hope to see you this weekend!

Limited Edition in Time for Valentine’s Day! The Herald in Rose´

Hi Pen Fans!

We are proud to introduce a new Signature Line Limited Edition pen. This is a Herald in Rose´ Acrylic. This is the first time that we’ve offered Rose Gold as a plating option, but I doubt that it will be the last!

This is a numbered Limited Edition of only 50 pens.

As you can see, the pen is accented with a Steel Nib and a clip that is plated in Rose Gold.

The Herald is a design that was part of our Production Line from 2012 to 2015. Around the time of the arrival of our new machinery last year, I redesigned the Herald from the ground up. I was never totally happy with the posting qualities of the original, so the barrel was altered for more secure posting. The section has been redesigned to a totally different shape. The interior of the cap now has a little more nib clearance and is a touch longer overall. The finial seam is a touch lower to keep the clip in the same position in spite of the cap length alteration. The cap lip of the Herald used to be kind of a sharp edge that didn’t visually transition from the cap to the barrel as well as I’d like, so the cap diameter is a touch smaller, and the cap lip is a nice smooth transition to the barrel step. The transition from barrel threads to section is much less abrupt, so fingers will glide over that transition with little notice.

This pen is a converter filler. We are offering Rose Gold Plated Steel nibs in EF, F, M, B, 1.1mm Italic, or 1.5mm italic.

Since the pen is inspired by Valentine’s Day, we included a nice little heart engraving on the back of the cap, infilled with a Rose Gold pigment. The engraving remains small and subtle, so it doesn’t “scream” a Valentine’s Day theme. And for me personally, this is extra special as my beloved wife personally drew the heart, which we later digitized. I might have to keep one of these for myself! 🙂

Price for this pen is be $225. The normal retail price for a Herald with a Steel nib is $275. I want to mention more about this pricing since in the past, we’ve only discounted our Signature Line pens in rare “group buy” settings. As we’ve grown, and with the acquisition of our new machinery not too long ago, we are able to take on more ancillary projects like this. So from here on out, discounted Signature Line Limited Editions like this will be a bit more frequent than just once a year, and not just in a “Group Buy” setting. So stay tuned!

A New Material in the Production Line Collier! Rock Candy!

Hi Pen Fans!

First off, I hope that everyone had a great Holiday Season and a great New Year! Part of our plans for 2020 includes refreshing some of our materials within the Production Line, and the first to be announced is a new material for the Collier! Rock Candy!

This material is something that we’ve never used before, and it’s an interesting composition. It’s difficult to put into words, but it has an amazing amount of depth considering that it’s a flecked pattern. This gives it a pretty phenomenal shine. While this composition is not celluloid, it feels like celluloid. Honestly, it’s qualities remind me of original Sheaffer cebloplast, which are hard to find in a modern acrylic.

The Collier in Rock Candy will be replacing the Collier in Blue Steel. So the Collier offerings will now be Rock Candy, Burnished Gold, Persimmon Swirl, and Antique Marble.

So if you’d had your eye on a Blue Steel Collier, now is the time! Whatever is left within the inventories of our retailers is all that’s left!

As with all of our Production Line Pens, these can only be purchased for through our retailers listed here for $169.

If anyone has any questions, please reach out!

2019 Limited Edition Group Buy! The Brockton! A New Model!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s time for our Annual Signature Line Group Buy pen! I fully realize that this hasn’t been an annual thing the last couple of years, but it was always our intent. The last few years we have been very busy keeping up with our normal demand to do these extra projects. But if you’ve followed developments with us over the last year or so, you’ll recall that our new machinery along with some other factors have contributed to a lot of great things for us, including our productivity.

So the Group Buy Pen is back to being an annual event! For those of you who aren’t familiar with how our Group Buy Events have worked in the past, this is the only time that you will ever see any Edison Pen discounted.

For 2019, we are making a splash with the Group Buy pen by introducing a completely new model. The Brockton! Please see the video below for all details.

The 2019 LE Brockton is a Converter Filler in either Miami Nights Acrylic or Cream Soda Acrylic. Both of these pens have a Steel Black Oxide nib and a Satin Black Oxide Clip.

2019 LE Brockton in Miami Nights
2019 LE Brockton in Cream Soda

This pen is a numbered Limited Edition of 300 pens total. There will be 150 pens in Miami Nights and 150 pens in Cream Soda.

The Brockton is a relatively shorter Edison pen when capped, at a touch under 5″ inches or 125mm. However, the nib penetrates very deep into the cap, so when the cap is removed, the barrel is a surprising 4 7/8″ or 123mm. The pen is a compact package when capped, but then when the barrel is removed you quickly realize that the pen is more medium sized due to how far into the cap the barrel penetrates. The cap also posts very secure, making the posted length 6 1/8″ or 155mm. Please see the video above for all specifications as well as a comparison to other Edison models.

2019 LE Brockton in Miami Nights
2019 LE Brockton in Cream Soda

These pens are available with Steel nibs only in EF, F, M, B, 1.1mm italic or 1.5mm italic.

The price for this pen is $199, normally $275.

Engravings are subtle, not visually “loud”.

Please note that the Brockton will now be a regular offering within our Signature Line and that we can take custom orders for this pen in any material, clipless, roll stops, or other custom options such as a Draw Filler. But of course, this would be at the higher price. So the nature of this Group Buy allows us to offer a significant discount.

Introducing the Ascent! A New Edison/Goulet Exclusive!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s been since at least 2011 that we’ve been working with the Goulet Pen Company on some very nice exclusive and special edition pens. Many of you are very familiar with the Premiere, which is been the flagship design of the Edison/Goulet collaboration since the beginning.

Well, it’s time for our collaboration to bring about a totally new model…the Ascent!

This is a pen that I began designing some months ago. The idea was based on many people stating that the Premiere’s pointed ends were less desirable and wishing for an alternative. So this design (while completely different than the Premiere) had the main goal of rounded over ends. In the end, the design ended up being a kind of “mini-Collier” in many aspects, especially the bull-nosed shape of the finial.

So anyone who isn’t a fan of the pointy ends on the Premiere and have also wished for a similar (but smaller) Collier-esque design should love this pen!

Below you can see Brian Goulet’s announcement video…

These pens are in stock and ready to ship over at The Goulet Pen Co.

For all additional details you can watch the video above, visit the Goulet Pen Co Store, or read the Blog Post announcing this pen.

Please let me if there are any questions!

Ohio Pen Show and LE Exclusive for the Show!

Hi Pen Fans!

We’ll be attending the Ohio Pen Show this weekend!

When we brought an exclusive Limited Edition Pen to the San Francisco Pen Show, it proved to be pretty popular. So we’re going to do another Limited Edition pen for the Ohio Show. Again, we will use special materials obtained from Jonathon Brooks of the Carolina Pen Company.

Be sure to see the video above for all details, but below are photos of this pen. It is a Collier in a material that Jonathon “custom brewed” for us that we are calling Nebula. While the photos below are nice, be sure to see all of the subtle details in this material by seeing full resolution photos here, here, and here.

The edition will be limited to 15 pens.

If you cannot attend the pen show and like this material as much as I do, we have a bit more of it. While we cannot make a pen identical to this one and also abide by the “rules” of a Limited Edition, we can still take custom orders for other pen models made from the same Nebula material. So be sure to email me if you’d like to speak about a non-limited edition pen made from this material.

Outside of this Limited Edition pen, of course we’ll be bringing lots and lots of our normal inventory. Actually, we’ll be bringing a pen show record exceeding 380 pens! We will have lots of pens made from materials that we’ve never used before, especially some amazing translucent materials. We’ll also have more than 60 Menlo Draw Fillers.

Click here to see all pens that we’ll be bringing to the pen show.

Collaboration with Carolina Pen Co! San Francisco Pen Show Exclusive Limited Edition!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s been a long time that I’ve been admiring Jonathon Brooks’ work as a penmaker, but also as a maker of pretty amazing materials. I have always wanted to work with Jonathon and some if his great materials. Last year at the DC Pen Show we started to hatch some plans….

Jonathan sent me some material samples not too long ago, and I really liked what I was working with. After making a few pens with these samples, I started to think of some kind of Limited Edition, but something that would remain small and simple to begin with.

Since we are attending the San Francisco Pen Show for the first time ever later this month on the 23rd, we figured that this might be a great time to set up an exclusive pen for the San Francisco Pen Show, and Jonathon’s materials looked to be perfect fit.

So we recently put the finishing touches on a pen design that we’ll bring to the San Francisco Pen Show, sold exclusively at the show…..

San Francisco Pen Show Limited Edition Menlo in Modified Japanese Autumn

This is a Menlo, but without a centerband. This is a material that Jonathon made exclusively for Edison that is loosely based on his “Japanese Autumn”, but Jonathon added some more reds and oranges to set this material apart. The Menlo is typically a Draw Filler, but we made this pen as a converter filler. You can see in the photo above that we created a nice engraving to note the exclusivity of this pen to the 2019 San Francisco Pen Show.

San Francisco Pen Show Limited Edition Menlo in Modified Japanese Autumn

This pen will be available at the San Francisco Pen Show as a Limited Edition of only 10 pieces. It will be first come, first served at the show when we set up on Friday the 23rd. We will not take pre-orders for this pen.

San Francisco Pen Show Limited Edition Menlo in Modified Japanese Autumn

(if you would like to see higher resolution versions of these photos, click here, here, and here.)

We are going to price this pen at the same rate as our normal Menlo set up as a Converter Filling Pen. $275 with a steel nib or $375 with an 18k nib.

Now I realize that some of you might feel left out if you love the looks of this pen, but cannot attend the San Francisco Pen Show. But I think that we can still help you out!

We do still have some of this Modified Japanese Autumn material available, and we can make a few more custom pens from it. But abiding by the rules of a Limited Edition, we cannot offer it as a Bandless Menlo, and we cannot offer it at the same price. Jonathan’s materials are significantly more expensive than what we normally use. In the case of the Limited Edition, we can absorb this cost since we made these pens “assembly line” style. But a custom pen made from this will be a bit more expensive due to the materials cost. Exactly what the additional cost would be, I don’t know yet, but if you are interested, please reach out and we can figure it out.

It’s truly been a pleasure working with Jonathon’s materials (and Jonathon!) If anyone wanted Edison to create any custom pen made from any of Jonathon’s materials, it can certainly be done, so feel free to inquire.

If anyone has questions, please email me! Otherwise we’ll look forward to seeing you at the San Francisco Pen Show! next week!

Lastly, expect to see another blog post next week highlighting all of the other pens that we’ll be bringing to the SF Show. We are putting the finishing touches on some other items, and will be bringing more then 350 pens! I’ll be showing those pens next week.

New Materials for the Production Line Pearlette!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s time for us to refresh the materials being used in the Production Line Pearlette.

We have chosen two new materials and will be discontinuing one material.

Canyon Trail is the material that we are discontinuing. If you like the Canyon Trail Pearlette, now is the time to buy one. Whatever is left with our retailers right now is all that is left. Once they are gone, they are gone!

So the materials being added are being called “Quantum”….

Pearlette in Quantum

Pearlette in Quantum

…and “Fingerpaints”….

Pearlette in Fingerpaints
Pearlette in Fingerpaints

Sonoran Sunset and Azure Skies are staying, so this will mean that there are now four materials available in the Production Line Pearlette.

From Left to Right…
Fingerpaints, Quantum, Sonoran Sunset, Azure Skies

Just like the rest of our Production Line, these pens are only available from the retailers listed here. You cannot buy these versions directly from Edison.

Please let me know if there are any questions!

New From Edison! The Extended Mina “Level”

Hi Pen Fans!

We are pleased to introduce a new modification to our Extended Mina called the “Level.”

Extended Mina Level in Lapis Lazuli Flake with Clear Yellow Window

The Extended Mina Level is the result of experimentation with our new translucent materials and a desire to create ways to check ink levels in an Extended Mina without affecting the simple aesthetic of the pen.

In addition to seeing your ink level, the pen is symmetrical when capped. Our employee Jake likes to refer to it as a “palindrome pen.” That’s one of the reasons we used the palindrome “level” as the name! Combined with the fact that it looks like a bubble level and you can check your ink level, it seemed like a no-brainer.

Extended Mina Level in Smeared Rainbow with Translucent Infernus Swirl Window

One cool feature of this pen is that the design only allows clear portions of the converter to be seen. So this makes the pen appear to be like an Eyedropper or perhaps one of our Draw Fillers. It’s kind of an optical illusion. So this feature allows you to discern ink levels in a converter filling pen that doesn’t look like a converter filling pen.

Only the clear portions of the converter are visible, creating an illusion that the pen is an eyedropper filler.

With this perfect symmetry, some people might wonder “how do you know which end is the cap and which end is the barrel?” This actually pretty easy. The barrel side of the ink window will be totally seamless. The cap side of the ink window will have a very small .020″ radius that’s only visible if you know what to look for. See towards the end of our YouTube video above for more on this.

The “Level” version of the Extended Mina will add $50 to the normal cost. There’s a lot of labor involved in building the ink window, epoxying it into place with an overnight cure, and then the additional boring, sanding and polishing that has to happen to make the interior as nice and shiny as the exterior. So with a Steel nib this pen is $275. With an 18k nib, $375.

At the time of publishing, there are almost 30 of these pens all set and ready to ship. Here are those pens in our Current Inventory Gallery

Here is the Main Gallery for the Extended Mina Level.

If you are interested in one of these pens that are ready to ship, email brian@edisonpen.com. If you are interested in creating a custom version, reach out and we can discuss!

Thanks!

New Beaumonts!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m happy to announce that we have refreshed the Production Line Beaumont with new materials! All three of these materials are based on fan-favorites.

For those of you who like the originals, I see that some of our retailers still have some stocked, but once they are gone, they are gone!

So here are the new materials! (if you cannot see the images below, please click here).

If you are interested in these new materials, all of our retailers should have received their shipments by now. You can follow this link to see all of the retailers carrying this for purchase.

Amber Glass, Twilight Embers, Unicorn

I’ll discuss a little regarding each material.

Amber Glass…

Amber Glass

Amber Glass

Amber Glass is a material that we’ve used in the past, but only in our Signature Line with the exception of a small limited edition from several years ago. Up until now, we’ve called it Flecked Tortoise. This has been a very popular material within our Signature Line, but the material is pretty expensive. For this reason, it never really lent itself to the price structure of the Production Line. However, with our growth in the last 2-3 years, our volume is getting to the point where we can negotiate larger quantities at a better price, making this material a lot more attainable for us in our Production Line.

The material is lightly translucent as you can see by looking at the cap in the top photo. Held up to a stronger light source, you’ll see through this material. It does have some nice pearlization, but the tighter flecked pattern breaks this up. So there is definitely depth, but small “chunks” of depth.

Twilight Embers….

Twilight Embers

Twilight Embers

Twilight Embers has a base color that is dark, but also with some hints of indigo. The swirls are orange and yellow, making a nice contrast. Some of you might recognize this from our custom line when it was called Elderberry Neon.

Of the three materials, Twilight Embers has the most uniform depth and pearlization.

This material has been very popular in our Signature line, and I feel that it’s a welcome addition to our Production Line.

Unicorn…

Unicorn

Unicorn

Unicorn has a pretty interesting backstory, and has been awfully popular in the past. The whole thing started about 4 years when we introduced this as a new material at the DC Pen Show. A customer (@faustine2012) loved it, bought it, and said “this looks like Unicorn Barf!” She hash-tagged this on social media, and as a result the name took off and stuck (even though we had always called it Hawaiian). If you look up #unicornbarfpen on Instagram or social media, you’ll see how popular this moniker has been! After this, the pen was used in a successful limited edition, and now we are happy to add it to our Production Line.

While I personally love the name Unicorn Barf, I’m not sure that I want to ask our retailers to put the word “BARF” on their websites! So we shortened it to “Unicorn”. This way, it still has the same panache, and is perhaps inside joke! 🙂

While the slightly outrageous colors speak for themselves, there is also a good amount of depth and pearlization contained within in the blue portions.

So these are the new materials! We are considering adding a 4th to this line over time. Let us know what you think would be a good addition, and we’ll certainly consider it!

CLICK HERE to find a retailer for purchase.

Thanks!
