Settling In!

Hi Pen Fans!

Well, we are back in action in our new and much larger location! Everything went very smooth, but also took much longer than I ever anticipated!

We’ve been posting some photos on our Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook page. We’ll continue to do so as we continue settling.

For those of you expecting an email from me, you should have received it by now. If not, please reach out.

Our new information is now on our Contact Page.

Thanks for your patience as we made this transition that is proving to be quite excellent for our business!

We’re on the Move!

Hi Pen Fans!

As many of you know, we are going to be moving our business to a much larger space (almost 4-fold larger! We are so excited!).

This move will begin this afternoon, and will continue through all of next week. So if everything goes as planned, we will be back in action on Feb 6th.

For those of you wondering how this will effect our order queue, fear not! We knew this move was coming, so back in December we purposely worked in an extra week of orders to get ahead. This means that all orders that occurred before the move were shipped a week early, and all orders after the move will still be delivered on the promised date. If this does not occur for some unforeseen reason, I’ll reach out individually to the customers effected.

So the main reason for this post – we will most likely be completely incommunicado until we are up an running again on Feb 6th. During this move, I can’t promise that I can return emails in any kind of timely manner (if at all), and we won’t be answering the phones so we can focus entirely on the move.

This is not going to be a small undertaking…our machines are very large and very heavy. Getting them safely moved, wired, and re-calibrated at the new location has me a little stressed out! And this is only the large machines! We have plenty of smaller machines, inventory, materials….basically everything to safely relocate!

I think that we’ll be fine, but wish us luck!

I’ll give updates when we are safely settled in.

We’re Moving! (as a result can’t make the LA Pen Show) and Email Server…

Hi Pen Fans!

I have great news in that we will be moving our business in late January/early February. This is wonderful for us, as we will increase from our current space almost 4-fold. Right now, we’re getting awfully cramped and simply running out of room as we grow.

Now the bad news is that this move will create a conflict with the LA Pen Show. 🙁

When we get prepped for a pen show, it literally takes about 2-3 weeks of work to get adequate inventory created. I’ve weighed all options and this move will definitely create a conflict. I wanted to let our West Coast friends know about this as soon as I knew for sure. LA is easily one of my favorite pen shows, so this was not an easy decision. But unfortunately it has to happen this way.

We will close down for an entire week when we do make this move. If the timing of anyone’s order is effected by this, I’ll reach out to those customers directly.

The next piece of news is that over the Holiday break, I moved our email servers. The reason for making people aware of this is that while doubtful, it’s possible that a few emails got lost in the shuffle. So if you are expecting an email response from me and don’t receive it by the end of the day Tuesday, please reach out.

Lastly, stay tuned! We’ll be announcing some great new items in early 2017!

I hope that everyone’s Holidays went well!

Back to work!

Happy Holidays From Edison!

Hi Pen Fans!

We are currently taking our Holiday Break.

I will be taking a much needed break from my computer, so I probably won’t be able to return emails until the New Year. During this time, Andrea and I as well as our employees will be focusing on our families and not work.  So if I don’t respond to emails until after the New Year, you’ll know why.

And stay tuned – we’ll have some pretty great announcements in early 2017!

I’d like to say thanks to everyone for another great year!  We at Edison truly appreciate your business!

Everyone have a great Holiday Season!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s that time of year for us to give thanks!  Here at Edison we have a lot to be thankful for! Our business has been growing and growing since the beginning. In the last six years we’ve been recognized with five consecutive wins in the Goldspot Polls, and have been recognized by Pen World Magazine in their Readers’ Choice Awards twice (nomination and win), along with plenty of good press in general.

When I sit down with family today for my favorite meal of the year, a big portion of my thanks definitely goes to our fans, who we wouldn’t exist without.

Thanks for supporting our business!

My wife and I just celebrated our 13th anniversary yesterday.  Our 11 year old is doing great in school and is growing up too fast!  Our employees love what they do! Everyone is healthy and happy!

So again, thanks for supporting our business, and everyone have a great Thanksgiving!  Please take a moment this week to recall all of the blessings in your life!

Below is a photo from the summer of my family heading to our favorite place – the ballpark!

Thanks!

Ohio Pen Show!

Hi Pen Fans!

We’ll be heading to the Ohio Pen Show today!

For those who have never attended this show, I recommend it. This show is always a nice combination of Vintage and Modern Pens.

Normally, I would put together a quick video showing what pens we are bringing, but I’m afraid that we’ve been a little too busy for me to have the time for this. So instead, I’ll share a slideshow below showing all of the pens that are coming with us. (if you can’t see this slideshow, click here)

We’ll be set up Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! We hope to see you there!

2016 LE Group Buy Stealth Glenmont!

Hi Pen Fans!

It’s time for our annual Signature Line Group Buy Pen!  The 2016 Group Buy Limited Edition Pen is a converter filling Stealth Glenmont!

Please watch the video below for details.

SOLD OUT (in only 11 hours!)

As opposed to previous years, we are not doing a buying and waiting period for the Group Buy Pen. Instead, all of the pens are currently made and ready to ship!

These pens are made with solid black acrylic end caps and section.  The barrel and cap are made from a pearlized black acrylic that has plenty of pearlization and depth, but is not too visually “busy”, keeping with the stealth theme.

The clip and nib are given a black oxide treatment for a nice deep black appearance.

All pens will carry a Limited Edition numbered engraving.  The edition will be limited to 150 pens.

The nibs are available in steel only.  Tip sizes can be EF, F, M, B, 1.1mm italic, or 1.5mm italic.

Price is $185 for this pen (normally $250).

Be sure to watch the video above for all details.

Lastly, if you would like to add any of our leather goods to this order, you can do so by adding those items to your cart in addition to the pen (the leather sleeve that fits the Glenmont is the Medium size).

You can click the link above to purchase.

Thanks!

Updates to Edison Nib Adjusting and Tuning

Hi Pen Fans!

Just a quick blog post to make everyone aware of some recent happenings with regard to tuning, adjustment, and customization of nibs on Edison Pens.

In the past, I have personally tuned every nib that leaves the Edison facility. Very few pen companies bother with this step, but we find this to be an absolutely vital ingredient to our success. I have often said that a great pen with a bad nib is like a Ferrari with a flat tire, and I think that most agree that this is an accurate and interesting analogy!

Many of our customers have commented on how this extra step that we’ve taken from Edison’s first day in business makes a huge difference in how their pens perform, and we wholly agree.

So what is changing? Not much. I will still tune, adjust, and perfect every nib that leaves our facility, but with even more accuracy and better results as I recently finished extensive training with master nib worker Richard BinderI didn’t simply attend an hour-long seminar. Instead, Richard was kind enough to host a multiple-day visit for personalized instruction. I will also be planning future visits to continue my education with Richard.

While I already had a good foundation in nib work (over the years, we never received any complaints), Richard was able to take my skills to the next level when it comes to “Binderizing” a nib (an extensive general tuning), along with perfecting my italic grinds, oblique grinds, architect grinds, as well as EF to EEEEF grinds.

I think that most customers already realize this, but I will iterate what our nib tuning procedures have been and will continue to be….

With Production Line pens, we perform a “dry” tuning at no charge. This involves…

  1. Tine alignment
  2. Proper adjustment of tip gap and tine gap
  3. General Smoothing
  4. Feed alignment
  5. Overall inspection

With Signature Line Pens, we perform a “wet” tuning at no charge. This involves…

  1. Tine Alignment
  2. Proper adjustment of tip gap and tine gap
  3. General smoothing
  4. Feed Alignment
  5. Overall inspection
  6. Test with Waterman ink on Rhodia or Clairefontaine paper.
  7. Any specific tuning that the customer prefers. Wetness, feedback, high/low angles, etc. So you can request the nib to be tuned to your exact preferences.
  8. Custom grinds such Italic (stub, cursive, or crisp), Oblique, Architect, and EF to EEEEF grinds

So our entire procedure will not change, but the skills used to make each of your nibs to write exactly how you wish have been nicely enhanced!

Thanks!
