LE Spencer Pen….A Difficult Decision….

Hi Pen Fans.

Please watch the video below for all details regarding the Spencer Limited Edition Pen.

Below is Greg Minuskin’s statement regarding the 14k Full Flex nibs….
Some of you have ordered the special 14k nib in either the green or red hard rubber swirl pen, with the modification of the nib to extra fine and flex. The nibs have been ordered and will arrive shortly. During the testing and prototype phase with the few 14k nibs we had, there has been discovered that during the modification of the nib the feed cannot keep up with the extreme demands some folks have placed on the nib, and the flexed nib puts on feed, resulting in some issues with ink delivery, especially with ink that is recommended with any modern pen that is more fluid, and less thick, resulting in our control group pushing too hard on the nib, bending the nibs and mis-aligning the feed in the processes, requiring both nib and tine repair.

Below is the letter that went out to all customers involved….
This is a message going out to Edison/Minuskin clients that are participating in the Platt Rogers Spencer Limited Edition Pen.

Greg and I have come to an even more difficult decision regarding this pen outside of not offering the 14k full flex nib, but again….we feel that this is the right thing to do.

Today we are getting feedback of rich disappointment regarding the Spencer Pen no longer having a 14k Full Flex option.  After all, how can a pen that is named after Spencer not have the ability to write like a Spencerian nib would?  We have heard this complaint, and we are taking it seriously.

We are regrettably canceling the entire project.  Trust us, this was a very, very difficult decision for us to come to.

We agree with all of our clients who are not happy that we have marketed a pen to commemorate Spencer, but will not have a nib equipped to write in Spencerian script.

For those who ordered the 14k full flex nib, we are hearing major disappointment.  For those who did not order this nib, I anticipate similar disappointment upon receipt of this news of cancellation.

We’ll be happy to deal with each and every one of you individually to ensure satisfaction in the end.

So we feel that the best solution is to cancel the project.  This may not be a popular decision, but we feel that it’s the right decision, considering how we marketed this pen.  The fact that then in the end, we found that we cannot deliver what we promised bothers us as businessmen.  We take full responsibility for this, and want to make it right.

Therefore, All clients will receive full refunds within a week or two from Greg.  Considering the Thanksgiving Holiday perhaps slowing down mail (and also Greg’s large bookkeeping task involved), please allow leeway on a timely delivery, but trust us, each of you will receive your funds in full.

In addition, as a way of showing our regret for this project being cancelled, Edison will be offering a $50 credit towards any pen ordered within the Signature Line to all clients involved in this project.  We at Edison have a complete spreadsheet with all of your names and emails.  We will honor a $50 credit at any time that you would like to take advantage of this.   We are interested in making a bad situation a good one for all customers involved.

We would like to stress our sincere concern for how we treat our customers.  We recognize that good customer service is critical to the success of a business.  All businesses make mistakes.  We would like to make sure that all customers involved in this mistake feel that they have been treated fairly in the end.

If anyone involved in the project feels unsatisfied in this decision and how we are choosing to handle the situation, I would welcome the opportunity to speak live.  My number at Edison is 567.401.2043.

Again, we offer our deepest regrets.  We marketed a project that we later found out could not be delivered as marketed.  We would like to recognize and take responsibility for this mistake as soon as possible, and make sure that everyone feels that they have been treated correctly as a result.

Sincerely,

Brian Gray  www.edisonpen.com
Greg Minuskin  www.gregminuskin.com

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please reach out.  We want to ensure that every client involved with this project is satisfied in the end.

Limited Edition Edison Nouveau Encore!

Hi Pen Fans!

We at Edison are proud to introduce our third Limited Edition collaboration pen with the Goulet Pen Company.

This time we have taken the Encore, and created something special around it.

What makes this pen most special is the material used.  This is Flecked Tortoise Acrylic.  This is a material that I’ve wanted to use in a Production Pen or Limited Edition setting for a real long time, but there’s always been some obstacles to using it outside of the Signature Line until now.

First, it’s rather expensive.  This is an Italian-made resin that comes to me at a much higher cost.  I couldn’t possibly do this as a Production Line pen without raising price.

Next, my supplier of this material has never had enough inventory to allow me to get quantities where I could create more than about 10 pens at a time.  I must have caught them at a good time, as I’ve been lucky enough to secure enough rods for a good sized Limited Edition.

So I’m very happy to be able to offer a really special material that normally is only used in Signature Line pens (due to cost and availability) in a more affordable version!  I honestly don’t want to sound like I’m trying to overly "sell" this material, but it’s one of my personal favorites!  The pen in the photos has been my personal user at my desk since we first prototyped the Encore almost a year ago.  I’m trusting the Goulet’s to take good care of this one, and get it back to me very soon!  Honestly, if there were ever a chance to get a material that is usually too costly and hard to acquire at a Production price, this is the time!

Also worthy of note is that this is the only Production version of the Encore with gold trim on the clip, centerband, and medallion.

This pen will be pre-ordered within a buying period that is scheduled to end Friday, November 30.  Granted that the materials arrive from overseas in a timely fashion, we are hoping to have the pen ready for shipping late December, perhaps early January.  Timely manufacturing updates will occur as we progress, so there will be no surprises on the shipping date.

Price is $185 with a steel nib.

More photos, all details, and buying information can be found here on the…
Goulet Encore LE Page.

Thanks!

A New Edison Retailer in Canada!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m proud to announce that there is a new international retailer carrying the Edison Production Line.

The Alexander Pen Company in Canada is now an Edison Retailer.

If you are familiar with how we do things here, you’ll realize that we put a lot of thought into who will carry our Production Line, and Alexander is no exception.  The company is run by Duncan Thompson, and we are really impressed with how he’s running his business.  The main site is here, and the blog is here.

So for our fans in Canada, here’s a nice option for you!

Thanks!

The Edison Beaumont is Goldspot’s 2012 Pen of the Year!

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m proud to announce that the Edison Beaumont has been named Goldspot Luxury Gifts Pen of the Year, 2012!

Some of you may be confused by this, as Goldspot announced this honor to another pen earlier this week.

Well, it turns out that Goldspot uncovered irrefutable evidence showing that the vote was hacked in the last 2-3 hours.  The Beaumont was ahead by a minimum of 6% the entire voting period, and then in the last couple hours, another pen suddenly surged ahead to win by 4%.

Well, it turns out that the vote was hacked.  If you’d like to read Goldspot’s statement, it is here.

I had no idea that the pen community could be so scandalous!

Regardless, we’d like to thank everyone who voted (legitimately!)

So in the last two years, the Huron was nominated for a Pen World Reader’s Choice Award, the Collier won Goldspot’s Pen of the Year 2011, and then the Beaumont just won Goldspot’s Pen of the year 2012!  That’s two years running for Edison in the Goldspot polls!

Again, thanks to everyone for voting.  Next week when we take a break, we’ll have one more item to be thankful for!

Back From Vacation! Updates….

Hi Pen Fans!

I’m back from my vacation.  We had a lot of fun at Hocking Hills.  We’ll definitely have to go back soon.  If you are interested in my photography, you can see my shots here.

A quick update….

The ebonite for the Platt Rogers Spencer Limited Edition Pen has been ordered.  It is coming from Germany, and sometimes there can be customs delays, so I don’t want to try and give an accurate estimate on when these pens will be done.

I can say that barring something unforeseen, the pens can be done prior to the Holidays (most likely sooner).  As we get closer to the ebonite’s arrival, and as we start manufacturing, we’ll give accurate timelines and updates.  So if you have one of the Spencer Pens ordered, you can expect to see updates here on my blog.

I have tons of emails to plow through, and I’ll get started on them tomorrow.  So If you are expecting an email response from me, you’ll get it then.

Relaxing today, and then back to work tomorrow!
